Back in the saddle again!

Horses??  No way, not me!  Sewing of course!

Yesterday I was in the middle of a project - Sewing, ironing, sewing, ironing and so on - when the inexplicable happened.

I went to sew a strip of fabric and the darn thing was going in reverse.  I thought I was crazy at first, so I tried again, and then again, but it was still sewing in reverse (whew, not crazy!).  So I held down the reverse lever to see if it had mysteriously switched placed with forward, still sewed in reverse!?!

After many Google searches and a tear down, E. and I were staring, yes blankly, at the guts of my machine.  We fiddled and poked for awhile, okay I was the one fiddling and poking, he was analyzing and inspecting.

After a couple hours I was chomping at the bit to buy a new machine and it was late so we threw in the towel for the night. Zzzzzzzz

The next morning I reassembled the machine, mostly so I could get the mess out of my kitchen.  Then E. came over pushed a button or a lever or whatever miracle was performed, and poof the feed dogs were moving in the right direction.

There was a small celebration which included jumping up and down excitedly, and then back to work.

But before I put my project in the machine I thought I should experiment with a test piece, and boy am I glad I did!  The stitches seemed to have a mind of their own.  The regular old stitch was sewing a stretch stitch. Strange you say?  Not really, remember I said I was the one that reassembled it??  I installed the stitch selector knob upside down!  Ohh well for now, it's back up and running!

Thank you dear Hub-E.!!

So, here is what I was able to finish:

This apron is for my niece, she turns eight today! Happy Birthday Megan!!

  1. Dear Holly,

This turned out so adorable! I'm sure your niece will treasure it...a special gift from her auntie! Please tell her that we are sending birthday greetings from Maine!

I had to giggle when I read about your machine incident. I've had similar issues...my latest was a strange noise...sort of like a mack truck sound! My youngest son, the mechanical whiz, took my machine all apart and fixed it...I don't know how... but it works like a charm!

Keep sewing...your aprons are so cute!

    Sweet blessings,
    Laura

    1. Hi Laura!

Thank you very much, and I will surely pass the birthday wishes on!

I am in the market for a new sewing machine, and was curious if you have any brand suggestions? I have an inexpensive Brother right now, which I am not very fond of. I have had the pleasure of using my cousin's Janome, which is like a Cadillac compared to mine! Any suggestions are very welcome!

      God Bless,
      Holly.Rae.
